Hurricane Rina weakens to category 1 storm

Hurricane Rina weakened to a category one storm Wednesday as it churned toward Cancun and other international tourist resorts on Mexico's Caribbean coast, US forecasters said. While Mexican authorities began evacuations as the coast of the Yucatan peninsula braced for a direct hit, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said Rina had "significantly weakened," with top winds of 85 miles (135 kilometers) per hour.
