Oman’s Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) has drawn an emergency plan in response to a substantial increase in reports from subscribers about frequent electricity outages in many areas of the Sultanate.

In response, the Authority has held a meeting with chief executives of electricity service providers and specialists in the field, to look into the reasons for the outages and their recurrence, and the companies' plans to avoid these incidents.

The meetings also looked into ways to communicate with subscribers and how the companies have been dealing with outage incidents, as the increase in demand for electricity has become a normal occurrence this time of year.

The companies assured that they are taking steps to avoid such incidents, by activating emergency lines, as well as communicating closely with subscribers with accurate information in cases of blackouts.

The companies also confirmed that they have available technical and monetary resources to combat such outages. The Authority will monitor the workflow of the companies in the next period, to help deal with subscriber reports and avoiding the occurrence of these incidents.

The AER is going through the preliminary reports of the electricity outages in order to evaluate the companies' readiness to deal with such incidents. The Authority has also conducted field visits to those affected, in all parts of the country, in order to gather more information about the outages.

The Authority invites all affected subscribers to follow the guidelines of the AER, and inform them of any outage in their area, by calling 24609700, sending a fax on 24609701, emailing compaints@aer-oman.org , or reaching out to the Authority on social media.
