Dubai residents were jolted by tremors triggered by a strong earthquake that occurred Tuesday afternoon in southeastern Iran. An earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Saravan city in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province at 15:14:17 local time (10:44:17 GMT). The epicenter is about 700 km away from the sheikhdom of the United Arab Emirates. Thousands of employees have been evacuated from buildings in downtown Dubai and Jebel Ali port, their employers telling them to leave work places in a disciplined way and to head home. Local Media said the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest mixed-use tower, had been evacuated, but the reports later proved to be untrue.
