Bujumbura - XINHUA

Two hippopotamuses on Wednesday night seriously injured a man in Burundi's Kirundo province, near the border with Rwanda, a local official told Xinhua by phone on Thursday.
The man was attacked when he attempted to chase the hippopotamuses that were damaging his crops near Lake Rweru.
"Innocent Musengezi, 51, was on his way to his home at Nyagisozi in Busoni last (Wednesday) night when he saw two hippopotamuses damaging his crops near Lake Rweru. He shouted at them so that they leave his crops, but instead of running away, they attacked him," said Godelieve Nshimirimana, head of Nyagisozi village.
Nshimirimana said the victim was taken to Kirundo Hospital early on Thursday, but added that there is little hope that the man will recover from his wounds.
On Thursday last week, a hippopotamus killed Desire Twagirayezu, 35, while he was attempting to chase a herd of hippopotamuses that were destroying his crops on the shores of Lake Rweru.
In August 2012, a hippopotamus killed a fisherman who was fishing on Lake Rweru.
