Beijing - Xinhua

Six people have been killed and seven others are missing in the Philippines as Typhoon Nanmadol continues to batter the country's north. Among the victims are two children who died in a mudslide. Electricity has been cut off and telephone lines are down. Delivering aid to the affected areas is proving tough as many roads and bridges remain blocked. In the worst hit areas, most residents have been evacuated, and a state of emergency has been declared in several towns. The typhoon is moving towards Taiwan and is expected to leave the Philippines by Tuesday.
