Chisinau - Itar-Tass
Chisinau and 43 settlements were affected and 14 districts remained without electric power supplies over heavy rains in Moldova last Sunday. The government will meet for an extraordinary meeting over the natural disaster on Monday. Chisinau, the cities Rezina and Orhei, and 11 districts were mostly affected from the heavy rains. The rescue service received over 100 applications over flooded private houses. The rescuers are working in all affected districts. All water bodies of the country are under control, there is no threat for the dams to be broken and there is no danger of floods now, press secretary of the service of emergency situations under the Moldovan Interior Ministry Liliana Puscasu told Itar-Tass on Monday. The Chisinau streets situated in the lower lands turned in the water flows, where the cars are being flowed away. The works to pump out the water, clean up sewage channels are in progress, the fallen trees, damaged cars, which, according to preliminary reports, make several hundreds, are being removed. In response to the criticism of several television channels, which broadcast the reports from the places of the natural disaster, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated that the utility services are not to blame for the aftermaths of the natural disaster. “I watched the reports, in which the drivers name me unqualified and silly. We will not point at someone. This is a natural phenomenon and far from all sewage systems can cope with it. The Chisinau mayor’s office is not to blame for this,” the mayor told reporters.
