London - Arabstoday
Grayson has been out of work after being sacked earlier this month by Leeds United after just over three years at Elland Road. Huddersfield have been looking for a new man at the helm following Lee Clark's dismissal last week. Grayson won promotion with the Whites out of League One in the 2009/10, a feat Huddersfield would love for him to repeat with them. The Terriers have been vying for promotion in recent years, but have endured play-off heartache in the past two seasons. Progression Grayson had been looking for a break from the game after leaving Leeds, but was sold on a quick return by chairman Dean Hoyle. The 42-year-old is acutely aware fans know about his connections with the Whites, although he insists he does not need to support a team to help them win promotion. "It doesn't happen that often when you come into a job where the team has a great chance of promotion," he said on the club's official website. "Huddersfield Town is a big football club with prospects of progression over the next few years and that is why I am here - to achieve that target. "I spoke to Dean on Sunday night and it was something that gripped my imagination straight away. What Dean has done here at the football club as Chairman was a massive factor in my decision to join. "We have got some good young players and some experienced heads - there isn't a lot wrong with the squad. What I will try and do is bring my own philosophy to the team. "Everyone knows about my connections with Leeds United, but I wasn't a Blackpool supporter when I got them promoted. I want there and achieved a dream of mine, which was to be a manager. "My sole interest is to gain promotion and if that means being in the Championship and going back to Elland Road and winning then so be it - I am a professional manager who wants to do well for his employees." Promotion Huddersfield are currently fifth in the League One table and Hoyle sees no reason why they cannot challenge for automatic promotion under Grayson. "We are well positioned in the league and I believe we are still in position to challenge for automatic promotion this season, but we do have a gap to make up to second place. I believe this is still achievable given the players we have at the club," said Hoyle. "Simon has a proven track record of success in this division. He knows League 1 inside-out and he knows exactly what it takes to get teams promoted to the Championship, having done so at both Blackpool and Leeds United. "Throughout his managerial career he has operated with the pressure to succeed and expectations that go along with that. We are delighted he has taken up the challenge and we look forward to working with him." From: Sky sports
