France's Richard Gasquet

Richard Gasquet reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time while Vasek Pospisil on Monday became only the third Canadian man to make the last-eight.

French 21st seed Gasquet defeated Nick Kyrgios 7-5, 6-1, 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (8/6) to avenge a second-round loss to the temperamental Australian in 2014.

The 29-year-old, a semi-finalist in 2007, will face either third seed Stan Wawrinka or Belgium's David Goffin for a place in the last-four after winning a last-16 clash at the majors for just the third time in 19 attempts.

For Kyrgios, who has delighted and enraged Wimbledon in equal measure, it was another topsy-turvy encounter.

At one stage, he "tanked" a couple of points, berated the umpire before seeking a consoling hug from a ballboy as his attempt to repeat his run to last year's quarter-finals failed.

The 20-year-old had a set point in the fourth set before his 10th double fault of the match handed victory to the Frenchman.
Unseeded Pospisil became only the third Canadian man to reach the quarter-finals with a 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win over Serbian 22nd seed Viktor Troicki.

The world number 56 won his third five-set match in four rounds and goes on to face either 2013 champion Andy Murray or Croatia's big-serving Ivo Karlovic for a place in the semi-finals.

Pospisil follows Robert Powell (1908, 1910 and 1912) and Milos Raonic (2014) as the only Canadian men to have reached the last-eight at the All England Club.

Later Monday, defending champion Novak Djokovic will face South African 14th seed Kevin Anderson in the fourth round, defending a 4-1 career lead.

Anderson won their first meeting in 2008 but since then the world number one has been on top, winning the next four without dropping a set, including a straight sets win at Wimbledon in the second round four years ago.

Roger Federer, 33, chasing a record eighth Wimbledon and 18th major, faces Spanish 20th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who was voted the most improved player of 2014.

He has lost both of his matches against Federer without winning a set, including a fourth round loss to the Swiss at the 2014 US Open.
Murray tackles 36-year-old Karlovic, the oldest man to make the fourth round at the All England Club since compatriot Niki Pilic in 1976.

Karlovic has rained down 136 aces in three matches but trails Murray 5-0 in career meetings.

The 2.08 metres (six feet, 10 inches) tall Karlovic, who was struck down with meningitis two years ago, is also one of four men aged over 30 out of a record entry of 37 left in the draw.

"Ivo has absolutely nothing to lose," said his compatriot and former tour player Ivan Ljubicic.

"He is really relaxed. At 36, what he went through not only in his tennis but the health scare he had a couple of years ago, he is just enjoying it."

American wildcard Denis Kudla is the lowest ranked player left in the tournament and the lone American.

The world 105 faces a stiff test against US Open champion Marin Cilic.

Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych, the 2010 runner-up, takes on Gilles Simon, the French 12th seed.
