President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Wednesday that Egypt is looking forward to boosting bilateral cooperation with Hungary, which he called a friendly country.

Speaking in a press conference after his meeting with visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Sisi said they discussed certain projects meant to achieve a quantum leap in relations between the two countries in the coming stage.

This should take place as Egypt implements an ambitious development plan for the future, the president noted.

He told reporters his talks with Orbán also took up the latest developments in the Middle East and Europe.

"We agreed on the importance of continued consultations at all official levels in order to coordinate stances and exchange views about major challenges," Sisi said.

The situation in Syria and Libya also figured high in the meeting, with focus on efforts to restore security and stability there, he added.

Sisi also said that he and Orbán discussed the threats of terrorism and extremism, as well as illegal immigration.

Sisi told reporters he posted Orbán on the transition to democracy and economic reform in Egypt.

"I affirmed the will of the Egyptian people to achieve comprehensive development."

Sisi also voiced appreciation for Hungary's interest in contributing to the development process in Egypt through intensified joint action and enhanced trade and investment relations.
