German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused Sunday to confirm that she will run for a fourth term.
In an interview with ARD, the chancellor said that she will announce in due course whether she will stand against as chancellor in next year's election.
Reports have been circulating in Germany that Merkel will delay the announcement until the Spring of 2017. The reason for that is that Merkel wants to ensure she has the backing of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, led by Horst Seehofer.
