London - Arabstoday

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has expressed his sorrow over the death of Denmark and Juventus legend Carl Aage Praest in a letter to Denmark Football Association (DBU) President Allan Hansen. Præst passed away last Friday at the age of 89. A winger or forward renowed for his breathtaking dribbling and precise crossing, Praest helped his country seize bronze at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament London 1948 and I Bianconeri win two Serie A titles in the early 1950s. President Blatter wrote: “It is with sadness in my heart that I write to you today, having learned of the passing of Carl Aage Praest. Praest made a total of 24 appearances for his country, racking up 17 goals and playing a key role in the team which won the bronze medal at the 1948 London Olympics. “His excellent performance during this competition led him to Juventus FC, where he spent seven seasons, playing 232 matches, scoring 51 goals, and obtaining two Scudetti in 1950 and 1952. “On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide family of football, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to you and the Dansk Boldspil-Union (DBU), to the family of Carl Aage Praest, and to his friends and loved ones. We would hope that in some way our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace at this time of sadness.“ Praest was inducted into the Danish Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
