JYVASKYLA, Finland - AFP

Seven-time world champion Sebastien Loeb will take a slender 1.5sec lead over Citroen teammate Sebastien Ogier into Saturday's third day of the Rally of Finland. French driver Loeb had led overnight but he will also be aware of the danger posed by home driver Jari-Matti Latvala who is only 2.6secs off the pace in his Ford Fiesta. Loeb lost ground late in the day when rocks thrown up by Ogier’s smashed his windscreen. Both Citroen drivers were keen to avoid running at the head of the pack for Saturday’s 11 stages and became embroiled a tactical battle. Loeb forced Ogier’s hand by checking in for the stage start one minute late, which incurred a 10-second penalty, but his rival responded by slowing sufficiently to fall behind Loeb. It meant Loeb will start first - and will clean the road on Saturday.
