London - AFP

Scotland forward Nathan Hines announced his retirement from international rugby on Wednesday, drawing a line under his 11-year Test career. The Australian-born lock, who qualified to play for Scotland by virtue of his maternal grandfather, first played for his adopted country in 2000 during a tour of New Zealand and eventually won 77 caps. Hines, 34, also won selection in the 2009 British and Irish Lions squad but did not make the Test side. He earned notoriety in 2002 when he became the first Scottish player to be sent off in a Test match after punching an opponent in a game against the USA. "It has been a real pleasure to coach Nathan over the last two years," Scotland coach Andy Robinson said. "He is one of Scotland's toughest ever competitors and a fantastic role model for all young Scottish players."
