Jeddah - Arabstoday

Event Mall defeated Pepsi 80-76 in Friday Morning Division in the Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) 2012 tournament at the Time-out Sports Academy on Television Street Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah. Ecopete gave it his best shot for Event Mall and was named Best Player of the game scoring 25 points. Paragas added 19 and Eborda 16 for Event Mall. After the first quarter, Pepsi was ahead by four points 19-15 but Ecopete hit a three-pointer before the first half ended to put his team in contention, with Pepsi up by only one point 37-36 at the end of the period. Ecopete continued to wax hot in the second half not only scoring but rebounding as well while Paragas and Eborda helped out on defense. Since the first half, Brosoto, who totaled 21 points, and Magnaye, with 18 for Pepsi, tried to outrun powerhouse Event Mall but the enemy shooters had an answer for each of their shots. Struggling GCT finally barged into the win column by beating Delta Water 55-46 in a low-scoring game. Named Best Player of the Game was GCT’s Mahilum, who scored 19 points and grabbed important rebounds. Abad supported him with 16 points in an almost perfect shooting from the floor specially with mid-range jumpers. Ballinan scored 15 points and Espiritu added 9 for Delta Water, which can’t buy a win because of lack of players. Manabat struck to score 16 points and haul rebounds and his long arms really helped him to the Best Player of the game award, while Panlaqui added 12 points and Tobeo 10 V-Cool won against Jica 66-58. V-Cool was ahead in the first two quarters but Jica retaliated in the third canto and ended the period in front at 48-43. Tobeo skirmished with Melebo, who had also a good game for Jica, and both players were slapped a technical foul. In the final quarter, Manabat, Tobeo and Panlaqui combined to lead the V-Cool’s march to victory. It was Jica’s first loss of the tournament.
