Virginia Water - UPI

Luke Donald took back the world No. 1 men's golf ranking two weeks after losing it to Rory McIlroy. Donald won a four-man playoff Sunday to collect the title at the Transitions Championship. It was his fifth PGA Tour title and 12th professional championship overall. The English star had been ranked No. 1 for 40 weeks until McIlroy won the Honda Classic earlier this month. That boosted McIlroy to the top spot Donald need just one hole to take the playoff against Jim Furyk, Bae Sang-moon and Robert Garrigus and move back to No. 1, with McIlroy regulated to second. Donald has a ranking points average of 10.035 with McIlroy at 9.848. Lee Westwood (8.165) is third while Martin Kaymer (5.874), Steve Stricker (5.806) and Charl Schwartzel (5.250) remain in the Nos. 4-6 rankings, respectively. Webb Simpson, who tied for 10th at the Transitions, moves from eighth to seventh with an average of 5.130. He switched places with Justin Rose (5.110). Adam Scott (4.944) traded spots with Jason Day (4.931) and is now ninth after being ranked 10th a week ago. Julien Quesne won the Andalucia Open for his first European Tour title. That boosted him to No. 183 in the world rankings. He was 322nd last week.
