Washington - UPI
Former Miami champion Nikolay Davydenko scored a first-round win at the Sony Ericsson Open Wednesday, beating American James Blake in three sets. The Ukrainian-born Russian overcame the 32-year-old Blake 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a 2-hour match on Day 1 of the event, which Davydenko won in 2008. Davydenko moves on to the second round, where he will face world No. 10 John Isner of the United States, who is coming off a second-place finish in last week's Indian Wells tournament. Also recording wins Wednesday were Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who dispatched Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 6-2, 6-2, and Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic, who beat Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Lukas Lacko of Slovakia defeated American Ryan Sweeting 6-4, 6-4 in another Wednesday match-up.
