Omaha - UPI

Thomas Robinson helped Kansas shake off a poor start Friday and the Jayhawks rolled in the second half to defeat Detroit in the NCAA Tournament 65-50. Prior to second-seeded Kansas taking the court, two No. 2 seeds had lost in the tournament Friday -- the first time in the history of the event there have been two such upsets on the same day. Detroit gave Kansas a tough time with its press early in the game, was tied midway through the first half and appeared ready to join Lehigh (over Duke) and Norfolk State (over Missouri) as huge upset winners. Kansas, however, went on a 34-7 run spanning halftime to build as much as a 25-point lead. Robinson had 16 points and 13 rebounds, sending Kansas (28-6) into a third-round meeting with Purdue. Elijah Johnson added 15 points for the Jayhawks, regular-season champions of the Big 12 Conference.
