UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended on Friday the racing events of the President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabian horses. The events were held at the Newmarket race course as part of the middle day of the famous Summer July Festival. The UK Arabian Derby was transferred this year from Ascot Racecourse to Newmarket, the home of British flat-racing. The race was sponsored by the Emirates Equestrian Federation and supported by Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Sports Council. Meanwhile, Mayson scored his third victory of the season at Newmarket as he powered to victory in The Darley July Cup on Saturday. With long-standing favourite Bated Breath a non-runner due to the conditions, Mayson took his chance as trainer Richard Fahey and jockey Paul Hanagan bagged their first Group One success in England. The four-year-old had disappointed on his last two starts, but rediscovered his form on his return to Newmarket with a dominant performance on the soft ground, galloping clear to claim an impressive win by five lengths from The Cheka, with favourite Society Rock third. Bonnie Brae took advantage of the soft ground to win the Bunbury Cup in heavy rain. Taking the lead inside the final two furlongs, David Elsworth’s mare finished strongly to beat Captain Bertie by two lengths, with Captain Ramius in third. Olympic Glory fended off a late charge from Birdman to win the Superlative Stakes, while Ocean Tempest claimed a narrow victory in the 32 Red Casino Handicap. From gulftoday
