Washington - Arabstoday
The New York Red Bulls claimed their fourth straight Major League Soccer win on Sunday with a topsy-turvy 3-2 victory over the ten-man Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. The Eastern Conference-leading visitors made light of the injury-enforced absence of top scorer Thierry Henry to take a 17th-minute lead through Joel Lindpere's left-footed strike, only for Philly's Lionard Pajoy to equalise 14 minutes later. Union forward Freddy Adu was shown a second yellow card for diving in the penalty area two minutes before half-time, but the ten men went ahead in the first minute of the second half when Pajoy grabbed his second goal of the match from a tight angle. However, New York soon made their numerical advantage tell and got back on level terms midway through the second half through Marcus Holgersson before Kenny Cooper notched the winner 12 minutes from time. Also on Sunday, substitute Alan Gordon headed home an 89th-minute equaliser to earn the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 draw against Chivas USA after Colombian teenager Jose Correa had opened the scoring at Buck Shaw Stadium with a neat finish in the fourth minute. The result saw San Jose end the weekend three points behind Western Conference leaders Real Salt Lake, albeit with two games in hand.
