London - Arabstoday
Newcastle are reviving a bid for Ajax left back Nicolai Boilesen who had a spell of training at Old Trafford three years ago, according to the Daily Mail. The Denmark defender was wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea when he was 17 and also spent a week with Newcastle. This was when he was with Danish side Brondby before he chose Ajax where he developed into one of the most promising full backs in Europe. However, his further development was hampered after he tore his right hamstring in September, putting him out for five months. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew went to watch Ajax play De Graafschap last month but prior to the game Boilesen, 20, was ruled out for the rest of the season after a relapse, the report added. But the injury may be a blessing in disguise for Newcastle whose £5m offer may now be accepted, once he recovers. If Sir Alex Ferguson mentions a name it usually means something. Which is why even of Newcastle United do not do Manchester United a favour today and beat City, the Magpies need to be wary. Demba Ba has impressed Sir Alex enough to raise the speculation about a possible buy. Speaking to Inside United, Sir Alex said he's been impressed by Newcastle United and top-flight new boys Swansea City and Norwich City this season as the three teams approach key fixtures this weekend. "The boy Demba Ba had a great first half of the season and scored a lot of goals. “At Swansea, Leon Britton and Neil Taylor have had great seasons. Grant Holt has been excellent for Norwich and David Fox has been impressive too." "I think Swansea and Norwich are the surprises, together with Newcastle," Sir Alex said. "With the history and fan-base at Newcastle, you expect them to improve at some point, but they've done well.” The Magpies remain in contention for a place in next season's Champions League following a splendid away win at Chelsea in midweek.
