Rome - Arabstoday

Former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has agreed to join Fiorentina on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, the Serie A club have confirmed. The 28-year-old Mali international will arrive at the Stadio Artemio Franchi after the CAF African Cup of Nations with a view to signing a permanent deal at the end of the season. Sissoko graduated from the youth academy at Auxerre before moving to Valencia, where he won the Primera Division and UEFA Cup under Rafael Benitez in 2004. He followed the Spaniard to Liverpool for £5.6m fee in the summer of 2005 and played a key role in the team that beat West Ham United in the FA Cup final. An injury-plagued two-and-a-half-year spell with Juventus preceded a €7m move to PSG, with Sissoko earning the captaincy towards the end of the 2011-12 campaign. But after being restricted to only three appearances in Ligue 1 this term, Sissoko has instead opted to help Fiorentina in their bid for a UEFA Champions League place. The defensive midfielder has earned 28 caps since making his international debut in 2004 and is expected to represent Mali against South Africa in Saturday's CAF African Cup of Nations quarter-final match.
