PARIS - AFP

Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier revealed on Friday that his club will appeal against the one-match ban handed to Taye Taiwo for chanting an offensive song about rivals Paris Saint-Germain. "We're going to appeal, that's for sure," Dassier told journalists in Paris. Taiwo, who has agreed to join AC Milan in the summer, led the Marseille fans in a chorus of an abusive chant about PSG after scoring the winning goal in their 1-0 win over Montpellier in last month's League Cup final in Paris. The Nigerian international left-back later apologised and said he had got carried away by the post-match celebrations. On Thursday he was banned for one match and fined 20,000 ($28,500) euros by the French Football Federation's (FFF) National Ethics Council (CNE). Taiwo's team-mate, Stephane Mbia, was given a suspended two-match ban and fined 10,000 euros for joining in with the chant.
