Liga de Quito take the initiative against Independiente

Goals from Ambrosi and Bolanos put the 2009 winners in the driving seat against the defending champions, who nevertheless will not be devastated at just a two goal deficit.The battle of the previous two champions ended in a win for Liga de Quito in their Casa Blanca home, although the Argentines will feel they still have an excellent chance when they play the second leg of this last 16 tie. Defending their 2010 title, the Rojo were downed by a goal either side of half time. Paul Ambrosi took advantage of an excellent squared ball from Hernan Barcos to break free in the area and finish well past Hilario Navarro, to put the Ecuadorian team ahead after 42 minutes.Seven minutes after the break, Quito's lead was doubled thanks to a stunning goal from Luis Bolanos. The No. 10 surged forward from near the halfway line and after a neat one-touch move with Barcos and Ambrosi smashed home to put the game, if not the tie itself, beyond doubt.The teams will meet again in Avellaneda on October 12, while at the weekend Independiente face bitter rivals Racing Club in the Clasico de Avellaneda.
