Houston book return to MLS finale

The Houston Dynamo are headed back to the MLS Cup, where they'll battle either the Los Angeles Galaxy or the Seattle Sounders for the Major League Soccer title. Houston played DC United to a 1-1 draw at RFK Stadium on Sunday in the return leg of the Eastern Conference final, advancing to a second straight MLS Cup championship match 4-2 on aggregate. The Dynamo won the first leg 3-1 in Houston to put themselves on the path to the 1 December title showdown. Houston advanced to their fourth MLS Cup title match in seven years. They won in 2006 and 2007 and lost last season to the Galaxy. The Galaxy were in a commanding position going into Sunday night's Western Conference final second-leg match in Seattle, having won the opening leg 3-0 in Los Angeles last weekend. In Washington, Houston's Boniek Garcia opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, slotting the ball past DC United goalkeeper Bill Hamid from close range after a pass from Brad Davis. Facing a three-goal aggregate deficit, United managed just one late goal from Branko Boskovic. In a last-ditch bid, United brought Dwayne De Rosario back as a substitute in the 62nd minute, but the 2011 Most Valuable Player was unable to conjure any magic in his first appearance since a knee injury suffered in an appearance for Canada in September.
