London - AFP
Boxer Anthony Ogogo reached the Olympic Games middleweight semi-finals on Monday, calling on his tearful response to Mo Farah's 10,000m emotional track gold as inspiration. Having beaten world champion Ievgen Khytrov in the previous round, the 23-year-old earned his place in the last four with a 15-10 quarter-final win over Germany's Stefan Hartel. With Britain currently third in the overall medals table, Ogogo said he was inspired by watching Farah become the first British 10,000m Olympic champion on Saturday. "I was watching Mo Farah the other night and I'm a big tough boxer, but I am not ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye," said Agogo, who faces Brazil's Esquiva Falcao in the last four. "It's a knock-on effect. I am inspired by seeing them do well." Ogogo became the third British boxer to reach the semi-finals in London, along with bantamweight Luke Campbell and women's flyweight Nicola Adams, but the guaranteed bronze a last four place brings has not satisfied him. "I feel really proud to have that extra medal for my country, but I am going for a gold medal," said Agogo. "The bronze feels good, but it's not enough. It's an insurance policy. I have wanted this trophy since I was 12 years old so that's what I am going for."
