Paris - Arabstoday

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps believes the 3-0 defeat of bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain last night is what the team needed to kickstart their Ligue 1 season. OM went into the fixture hoping for a positive response to back-to-back defeats against Montpellier and Olympiacos, and they put in the performance of thei season so far, with goals from Loic Remy, Morgan Amalfitano and Andre Ayew denying PSG the chance to return to the top of the table. "This kind of game is important," Deschamps said on the club's website. "After our performances earlier in the week, winning 3-0 was great fun. The team put on a great show. It was crucial to win this and play well so we set out aggressively, made an impact from the first minute and Paris could not find a way into the match. "Our supporters have been angry since the start of the season but last night they were given a great performance. This match is only worth three points, but for them it was something significant to beat PSG. "And to win 3-0, to make them proud of the players they have seen on the pitch, I am pleased with that. I knew the potential was there. After Wednesday's game [against Olympiacos], this performance against the league leaders is a big satisfaction. "Beating PSG is not a trivial thing. There are players in this team who have been widely criticised, but the quality is there. The important thing now is to keep this spirit. We have another match on Friday [at Caen] and that's a new challenge." Kombouare still confident PSG are now without a win in three games in Ligue 1 and lost top spot in the standings to Montpellier as a result of the defeat. The spotlight will once again be on coach Antoine Kombouare, although his immediate concern is picking his squad up quickly for their UEFA Europa League fixture in Salzburg on Thursday. "Congratulations to Marseille, who produced the game you should," he told L'Equipe. "That said, after the first half I was very disappointed because I felt it wasn't deserved and that OM led against the run of play. "The second half left me with a bitter taste, though. The confidence had gone from the squad, we had no impact in duels and when that doesn't exist then it becomes complicated. "This defeat and the one against Nancy do not hinder our ambitions. It's just six points lost. I'm looking forward to seeing whether we have the resources to react. I still have great confidence in my players."
