London - QNA

Colin Moynihan announced his resignation as chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA) on Monday, following what he called an “historic” achievement by British athletes at the London Games. Moynihan, a former sports minister and rower, also sat on the board of the London organizing committee of the Olympic Games, LOCOG. He was elected BOA chairman in 2005. “The years of hard work undertaken by everyone at the BOA have paid historic dividends through the delivery of so many outstanding personal bests by our athletes,” he said. Moynihan, a former Conservative member of parliament, is now a member of the House of Lords. He said he hoped to be able to work for a “coherent sports policy” in the upper house. Moynihan said he would stay on in his post until a new chairman is elected in November. He leaves a year before the end of his second four-year term.
