The Munich Exchange forum in Germany on Sunday named Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, the best performing airline in 2014.
The awards ceremony, now in its 16th year, took place at a gala event at Munich Airport, attended by airline and airport executives.
Etihad Airways was selected as the winner of the 'Best Performing Airline in 2014' award following its successful expansion of operations from Munich in February this year, when the airline increased flights to and from its Abu Dhabi hub to double-daily.
Philip Lewin, Etihad Airways' General Manager Germany, said: "We're delighted to win this award from Munich airport which illustrates the strong partnership we have with the airport and the city of Munich." "Munich was one of the first international destinations Etihad Airways launched and since then we've carried almost 1.2 million passengers on the route and this figure will continue to increase at a greater pace with our double daily service." Andreas von Puttkamer, Vice President Aviation, at Munich Airport said, "This award is bestowed on airlines that expand their offering at Munich Airport constantly, sustainably and successfully. Etihad Airways has demonstrated this mix of increase in frequency, passenger growth and capacity utilisation and we congratulate them."
