Sweets industry in Algeria
Algeria - Rabia Khureis

The culinary expert, Dalila Chardoud, revealed secrets about the profession of sweets industry in Algeria and how she broke into it with her three sisters and her mother.

Chardoud told Arabs Today that her mother, Mrs. Fatiha, played a great role in transporting the cooking profession to her. In the beginning of 2000, Mrs. Fatiha helped her to deliver orders to customers, and over time, she was able to discover important secrets about the Algerian confectionery industry. They finally opened a small shop called "didi délice".

The visitor to their shop feels as if he is touring the depths of ancient Algeria, given the traditional sweets displayed in his façade, which tell all tales of Algerian heritage.

Dalila, her three sisters and her mother are not only making traditional sweets because of their love to the Algerian heritage, they also start making modern sweets such as the famous Italian delicatessen "Etramisso" and "Pavlova" and other desserts that attracted the attention of customers.

Delilah Chardoud said that the sweets they make are very popular across the Algerian provinces, especially the traditional ones, because Algerians are still adhering to their identity and originality.
