The Egyptian cabinet on Friday condemned a terror attack on a security checkpoint in Sinai that left 12 soldiers dead earlier in the day.

In a statement, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said the Egyptian state is determined to purge the country from terrorism, defeat the powers of darkness and ignorance, and complete the construction and development process.

He spoke highly of sacrifices by the brave men of the armed forces to safeguard the nation's resources and protect the lives and property of citizens.

Earlier in the day, 12 servicemen were killed and six others injured when an armed group attacked a military checkpoint in North Sinai.

Also, up to 15 terrorists were killed.
