Ali al-Haj Mohamed
Khartoum – Abed Algayom Ashmeag

Ali al-Haj Mohamed Khartoum – Abed Algayom Ashmeag  Ali al-Haj Mohamed, the assistant to the Secretary General of the Popular Congress Party Hassan al-Turabi, told Arabstoday that the situation in his country is complicated, characterising the conflict between Khartoum and Juba as “dangerous.” He said, over the phone from Germany that his being abroad does not mean being away from what is going on in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile, which has witnessed armed conflict, denying that he has met or will meet with Sudanese Vice President Al-Haj Adam Yousif, who began an unannounced visit to Germany Thursday. Leaks, have spoken of talks that Yousif will hold with some opposition parties abroad, among which is the Justice and Equality party. He pointed out that he had visited Ahmed Ali al-Imam, the former consultant to the Sudanese president who is now receiving medical treatment in Germany, saying: “the case in Sudan seems to be larger than any meetings to be convened between us and officials in Khartoum,” adding: “The government is facing a major crisis. The country is in a bad  situation due to the ruling regime and its policies. The country is now at a crossroads, after problems have accumulated and no one has seriously sought to resolve them”. Ali al-Haj is one of the most prominent leaders of the Islamic movement in Sudan who left the country in the wake of the well publisiced differences between President al-Bashir and Hassan al-Turabi in 1998. He occupied ministerial positions with the current regime, and was someone who had influence. However, his differences with the military were many. The Sudanese authorities accuse him of being behind the financing of rebel movements, and that he, among others, was behind the spread of what is known as the “Black Book”, which talks about the oppression and marginalisation affecting Darfur during the rule of al-Bashir.
