Two people were killed and 24 others injured as a wholesale market building in south China's Guangdong Province collapsed in storm, local authorities said Friday.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Friday at the fruit market in Chancheng District of Foshan city, when a steel-framed shed was brought down by a strong gale packed with heavy rain, according to a statement from the city government.

Two people died at the scene. The injured were sent to hospital.

As of Friday noon, 13 people were still hospitalized, including two suffering serious injuries. The injured were all in stable condition, said the city's health and family planning commission.
