
A teenager was killed Saturday after government forces fired on people protesting against the Gaza killings in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The teenager Suhail Ahmad Lone was killed in Khudwani town of Kulgam district, about 57 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Though Lone was immediately removed to Anantnag hospital but doctors there declared him dead, eyewitnesses said .
"An unfortunate incident of firing has taken place in Khudwani, Kulgam in which one boy namely Suhail Ahmad lost his life," a police spokesman said. "The circumstances leading to the incident of firing are being enquired into."
According to locals, people had assembled in market place and were demonstrating against the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
On Friday, a youth was critically wounded in adjacent locality of Wanpoh after Indian police and paramilitary troopers of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) fired to disperse people during a similar protests.
Officials said the people clashed with police and were throwing stones at government forces since Saturday morning.
However, locals said apart from anti-Israel protests, they were protesting against Friday's firing on peaceful protests and were demanding action against police officials.
The policemen, according to locals, fired bullets and tear smoke shells to disperse them, besides resorting to baton charging.
The killing has heightened tension in the area. People including women and children coming out on roads to protest and mourn Lone's killing.
Hundreds of the people participated in the funeral prayers of Lone.
Authorities have rushed huge police and paramilitary contingents to the area to enforce restrictions and prevent protests from spreading further.
Reports pouring in from the area said youth are throwing stones on government forces, who respond by firing tear smoke shells and warning shots.
