A violent storm system swept through the fourth largest U.S. city of Houston Tuesday morning, causing power outage and casualties. Several portions of different roads in the city were shut down due to high water and fallen power lines, bringing the morning commute to a crawl. A woman was killed by a falling tree in northeast Houston, according to the local newspaper Houston Chronicle. The severe storm also left more than a dozen people injured in La Porte, a city 40 km southwest of downtown Houston, when a structure collapsed at a plant construction site. Their injuries, however, were not life-threatening, the report said. A flash flood watch is in effect until Wednesday for nearly all of southeast Texas, while a tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service for the Houston area. Meteorologists said the rains will continue through the weekend and flooding may be an issue for some residents.
