Beijing - Xinhua

Children living in the South Caucasus country of Georgia have seen improvements in both their living and social conditions in recent years, a UNICEF report Thursday said. Among the improvements detailed in the UNICEF report that was presented to parliament was a decline in the under-five (years of age) mortality rate since 1990. Another improvement was the number of children in primary schools, which was demonstrated by an enrollment rate of 100 percent for boys and 98 percent for girls between 2005 and 2009. Secondary school enrolment rates in Georgia for the same period were 92 percent for boys and 88 percent for girls, according to the UNICEF report. The country immunized between 96 percent of 1-year-old children against DPT, 95 percent against tuberculosis, 93 percent against polio, 83 percent against measles and 54 percent against hepatitis B.
