Suicide bombings in Nigeria’s Borno State on Sunday killed 9 people and injured another 24, the Nigerian army said.

The blasts are believed to have been carried out by 3 children aged from 10 to 15.

The incidents occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the town of Benisheik in the northeast of the country, army spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman said in an e-mailed statement.

The attack came a day after the army killed more than 20 insurgents in Borno after an attack on the town of Buratai.

Borno is the birthplace of group Boko Haram, which according to the United Nations and Amnesty International, killed nearly 20,000 since it began a campaign in 2009.
