At least eight militants were killed in a clash with police in Pakistan's east Sheikhupura city on Thursday, local Urdu media reported.
Samaa TV said that the Counter Terrorism Department of police launched a search operation after receiving an intelligence tip-off regarding presence of the militants in Sharaqpur area of Sheikhupura, a district located in the country's east Punjab province.
The militants opened fire at the police, engaging them into a gun-battle, during the operation in which eight militants were killed and four others fled the scene.
Police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including Kalashnikovs, pistols and explosive materials from the possession of the terrorists.
The cops said that they also recovered maps of sensitive locations from the compound of the militants who, according to initial reports, were associated with Pakistani Taliban.
The law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area for further investigations.
The bodies of the dead terrorists were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Sheikhupura for autopsy.
