Lima - Xinhua
Peru's President Ollanta Humala declared on Thursday a state of emergency in the country's air traffic control services to face a 72-hour strike held by ground-base controllers. The move aims to create a climate of normalcy in the middle of the labor conflict caused by the Union of Air Traffic Controllers, who demand employment improvements. The Peruvian Airports and Commercial Aviation Corporation will guarantee the normal operation of the air terminals through the hiring of foreign aeronautic personnel. The exceptional measure seeks to guarantee the airport activities and the passengers' flight. The strike, which will last for three days, did not affect the flights on Thursday.
