Ngo Khac Thinh, deputy chief of Nha Trang's urban management office, told local Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that initial information showed around ten people had been injured and at least two killed.

According to Thinh, the city is promptly carrying out search and rescue mission which is putting high priorities on bringing the injured to hospital for emergency treatment.

Nguyen Duc Quynh, chief of Khanh Hoa provincial Firefighter Department, said an elderly and a four-year-old boy were found dead after being taken out of the debris by rescue forces.

Nguyen Van Huong, chairman of Phuoc Dong commune people's committee where the landslide happened, said there remain people stranded in the wreckage.

At the site, thousands of cubic meters of soil and rock buried ten detached houses at bottom of the mountain.
