Dubai - Arabstoday

A man who published a woman’s picture on Facebook a year-and-a-half ago was stabbed to death by the woman’s brother on Wednesday, Dubai Police said. Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said the suspect stabbed the man at least 10 times and was found in a pool of blood in basement parking in Jafiliya area. The victim was identified as M.D., a 30-year-old Indian who worked as an accountant in a furnished apartment building. The victim’s colleagues told police that a man came asking for him by name earlier and took him out. The two went to the basement parking before the visitor was seen fleeing the building in a hurry. Examination of the body showed the victim was stabbed 10 times in the abdomen, and his facial features were distorted, which led to the conclusion that the killer had a grudge against him, police said. A watchman of a nearby building said he saw a man running and getting into a white car parked near his building. He said the man was bleeding from a cut in his right hand. Few leads Since there were few leads in the murder, the case was discussed with Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, who advised CID to adopt a plan to close in on the suspect, starting with his injury and the need to get treatment, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Merri, Director of the Investigation Department, said. The suspect’s picture, taken from the closed circuit television footage in the building where the victim worked, was distributed to all entry points to ensure he does not leave the country. Ten hours later, a corporal in Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 recognised the suspect, who was checking his bags at the first class check-in counter. The corporal called the witness who first saw the suspect at the victim’s workplace to identify him, and he did. The suspect told interrogators that the victim used to work with his sister in Kerala and got hold of her personal pictures, which he posted on Facebook and other websites along with obscene comments. He said his complaint about the victim’s behaviour fell on deaf years when he reported to police in his home country, so he decided to take the law into his own hands in the UAE. The suspect was referred to Public Prosecution.
