Mumbai - Xinhua

India's well-known social activist Anna Hazare staged his three-day fast in Indian business hub Mumbai on Tuesday in a bid to force on-going parliament to adopt strong ombudsman bill. The rally led by Anna Hazare, who is in fever due to coldness for more than one day, has drawn five to eight thousand people from the surrounding area until the noon of Tuesday. Many people reached the ground for rally in Bandra Kurla Complex of north Mumbai by motorbikes and buses waving India's national flags. While addressing the rally, Anna Hazare said he would live and die for India and will campaign against government in five poll- bound states with them betrayed by the government. Arvind Kejriwal, a leading activist from Anna's team, called on the parliament to dump its weak anti-graft Lokpal bill and accept Jan Lokpal bill by Anna's team. Meanwhile, 74-year-old Anna Hazare was urged to stop his fast by his eminent supporters on ground of unwellness. Anna Hazare has threatened to fill the jail if the parliament fails to pass a strong and effective Lokpal bill within next few days. Around 140,000 people have signed their support for the fresh movement on a website named www.jailchalo.com by Anna's team. The government has expressed its desire for Anna Hazare to wait some time for the parliament to finish debate on the Lokpal bill. Now, the government and Anna's team are divided on whether low- rank officials and Central Bureau of Investigation to be covered by the proposed law among other issues. The local government has deployed around 2,000 police to secure order and security for the rally. Anna Hazare has launched a nationwide protests and a 13-day- fast against corruption in this August, forcing Indian government accelerating the legislation of anti-graft law.
