A homemade bomb exploded on Monday next to a subway station in Chile's capital Santiago, injuring at least ten people, officials said.
The blast occurred at lunchtime in a fast-food restaurant in a small shopping and eating area next to the Escuela Militar metro station in Las Condes.
The explosive device was made with a fire extinguisher and a clock that were planted in a trash can, officials said.
"This is an act that has the hallmarks of a terrorist act. There is not doubt about that," said government spokesman Alvaro Elizalde, adding that the authorities would launch an "energetic response". "We're going to use all the weight of the law, including the anti-terrorist law, because those responsible for these acts have to pay," she added.
No one claimed immediate responsibility for the blast.
