Heatstroke has killed three people and left more than hundreds ill in Japan as sweltering weather continued in the country during the weekend, according to local media.
A woman, 94, was pronounced dead at a hospital in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, after being found collapsed near her home at around 4 p.m., Japan's Kyodo News quoted a local firefighter as saying, adding she may have died of heatstroke.
Temperatures topped 30 Celsius degree at 400 places, with a high of 36.3 Celsius degree recorded in the city of Tatebayashi in Gunma Prefecture and in the town of Ibigawa in Gifu Prefecture, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Twenty-five locations across the country including Kyoto saw temperatures soar over 35 Celsius degree, it said.
On Saturday, two people died and over 250 people were taken to hospitals due to heatstroke, said the report.
