Three Taliban militants and a police personnel were killed as a clash flared up in Darqad district of the northern Takhan on Sunday, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir said.
The clash, according to the official, erupted after a group of militants opened fire on a police checkpoint in Tahiri village of Darqad district in the wee hours of Sunday and the police returned fire killing three attackers.
One policeman was also killed in the firefight, the official said.
Three more police sustained injuries, he added.
Darqad district, along the border with Tajikistan, has been the scene of Taliban-led militancy and violent incidents over the past six months.
