A 3-year-old Australian boy who was badly mauled by a dog has died, hospital officials said Tuesday. Korbin Sprott was playing with his grandfather's German shepherd Saturday in front of his home in Mackay when the incident occurred. The dog bit the boy's neck, puncturing a major artery and causing massive blood loss, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. He was flown to a hospital for treatment and officials said Tuesday he had died. The German shepherd has been put down, the ABC reported. Michael Beattie, a representative of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said the event was a tragedy. "But we wouldn't like to see all German shepherds or all dogs, for example, sort of demonized because of one particular incident," he said.
