Diver searching South Korean ferry wreckage perishes, death toll reaches 260

South Korean government officials announced that a diver searching for dozens of people who disappeared in the tragic ferry disaster has died after losing consciousness underwater. The unnamed diver, 53, was combing the water off the Southern coast of South Korea where the Sewol ferry sank, with his fellow divers pulling him to the surface after he stopped responding to their communications. The April 16 sinking left at least 260 people dead, the latest figures show, as government and civilian divers continue sifting through the area to locate the bodies of the 40 people still missing.
