At least 553 people in the Kingdom of Thailand were confirmed dead and 2 others were missing as floods have ravaged the country since July 2011 according to a report issued today by the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department.
The central province of Ayuttahaya has recorded the highest death toll of 90 people, followed by the central province of Nakhon Sawan where 62 people were killed by the flood.Floods caused by torrential monsoon rains have inundated 24 out of 77 provinces, affecting about 2.8 million people. Bangkok's major river surged up to unprecedented heights and submerged nearby buildings on the riverbanks. (IY)
