Mumbai - XINHUA

The death toll in a building collapse in the southern Indian city of Chennai has risen to 43 while there are few still feared trapped under the debris, according to official figures released Wednesday.
Rescue workers recovered 10 more dead bodies since late Tuesday night till 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 43.
As many as 27 construction workers have been rescued from the debris of the under construction building that collapsed on last Saturday evening.
Rescue operations are continuing at the site as a few more people are feared trapped in the debris.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has said that the builder violated norms. The police have arrested six including the real estate developer for negligence.
Building collapses are common in India where there is a high demand for housing. This is because of poor construction practices.
At least 10 people were killed when a four-story building collapsed in the Indian capital Saturday.
In January this year, some 14 people died when an under- construction building came crashing down in the western state of Goa.
About 74 people died after a eight-storey building collapsed in suburb Mumbai in April last year.
