At least 14 people have been killed and many others injured or displaced after heavy rains pounded Kenya's capital Nairobi Friday night, the police said Saturday.

Among the dead, seven lost their lives after a six-storey residential building collapsed in Huruma, in the east of Nairobi, Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome told Xinhua via phone.

Koome added that 120 others were rescued after the collapse of the building, which housed some low-income families.

Some of those saved were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.

Many motorists and pedestrians were also left stranded on Friday, as roads were made impassable due to the downpour.
