Adviser to Serbian president plays down voting incident

Marko Djuric, political adviser to Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, denounced extremists who stormed a voting poll Sunday during the local elections in Kosovo. A group of masked extremists stormed the polling station in Sveti Sava elementary school in Kosovska Mitrovica, just before 5 p.m. (1600 GMT) on Sunday, earlier reports said. "Those who want to fulfill their political goals by spreading violence and hatred, even if they by name belong to Serbian nation, will provoke harshest possible reactions from Serbian state," Djuric told Xinhua. Incidents in Kosovska Mitrovica show that extremists do not have any flag or normal sense of belonging to any nation, as they are united in desire to destroy the election process, Marko Djuric told Xinhua. Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbia refuses to accept Kosovo's independence.
